Players will be able to choose between a male or female character at the beginning of the game. This choice is purely visual – male and female characters have the same gameplay and story.
The player’s character will be represented as a young human who has been orphaned and taken in by the Ironbarrow Village blacksmith. The player will find themselves, through no grand scheme of their own, thrust into an epic tale of kings, rebels, and things more wondrous and sinister than anyone in Laria could imagine.
Our player's story is driven by relationships. Every region in Laria is teeming with different kinds of life, from rustic villages like Ironbarrow to desolate wildlands like the Burning Steppes. Below: residents of Ironbarrow Village.
All creatures in Laria are driven by natural instinct. Common themes can be derived from all living things, whether their instincts are to build, socialize, survive, or hunt. These themes allow for meaningful behaviors among villagers across different regions, as well as wild creatures from the forests, mountains or ocean.
Some example themes include laws created by Laria’s royal council, cultural values passed down by village elders, and the simpler forms of motivation – greed, lust, jealousy, love, and compassion. Instinctual themes can vary wildly and often conflict, creating a unique depth to the nature of Larian creatures.
It will be up to the player to determine which themes hold the highest value, which will lead to unique relationships – and unique gameplay – across the continent of Laria.
